Five-year-old Gilberto is a happy, active and outgoing boy who loves taking pictures and eating macaroni and cheese. He also likes to watch movies (especially Disney films), swim, play soccer and ride motorcycles. He loves to fuel up with Oreos, Goldfish crackers and chocolate so he has enough energy to play with his Batman, Superman, Iron Man, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Transformers, Toy Story and Mickey Mouse action figures.
After being diagnosed with acute leukemia on June 12, 2007, Gilberto wished to go to Disney World in Orlando, Florida. He’s always wanted to visit the Magic Kingdom, Universal Studios and a water park, but he really wants to go in Ocotber so he can trick-or-treat wearing his Transformers Halloween costume!
Thanks to SchnelltemberFest, he will able to do just that.
Shaniqua is a very outgoing 18-year -old girl from Chicago who loves chocolate, ice cream and the color pink. Shaniqua is always on the go and stays busy going to school, doing her friends’ hair and taking care of her 3-year-old son, Rashawn. When she has a spare minute, Shaniqua loves to read books.
In 2007, Shaniqua was diagnosed with a life-threatening condition in 2007, but she bravely fights her disease, regularly visits her doctor and continues to live each day to the fullest. Shaniqua’s big wish was a shopping spree. Thanks to SchnelltemberFest and Make-A-Wish, Shaniqua’s wish came true. Wish-granters surprised Shaniqua at her home and made over her bedroom with a new bed, a hot pink comforter and a crystal reading lamp. But the fun was just beginning! A limosuine took Shaniqua, her son and her best friend all over town to buy additional furniture, a Spiderman lamp for Rashawn and clothes galore.
Shaniqua was able to forget about her illness for a day and simply enjoy a day of fun and shopping!
Kaitlyn is a very sweet 6-year-old girl from Chatham, Illinois, where she lives with her parents and two older siblings. Like most girls her age, Kaitlyn loves purple, pink and all the Disney princesses. She also likes watching Sesame Street (especially her favorite character, Elmo) and eating cookies and ice cream.
In July 2009, Kaitlyn was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, a cancer of the body’s disease-fighting white blood cells. Kaitlyn has been undergoing harsh chemotherapy treatments, but she continues to smile and make her family laugh.
Kaitlyn’s big wish was a trip to Disney World, and thanks to SchnelltemberFest and Make-A-Wish, she was able to go there. A limousine escorted Kaitlyn and her family to the airport, and then they flew to sunny Florida. They checked into their villa at Give Kids the World Village, a special resort designed for kids with medical conditions. Once Kaitlyn and her family were settled in, they walked to the Sparkleberry Nature Trail and splashed around the Wacky Waterworks pool. Kaitlyn and her family explored the fun of the Disney parks for a full week – meeting characters, watching musical shows and enjoying the fireworks and parades.
The highlight of Kaitlyn’s trip was her royal-treatment makeover at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. She wore a very pretty princess dress and met her favorite storybook princesses for lunch at Cinderella’s castle! Kaitlyn will never forget her magical trip to Disney.
